Carly was born in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado at two years old. Throughout childhood, she was captivated with the life her family left behind in Chicago. This created a balance between the expectations that came with living in a small, outdoor-adventure loving town and her aspiration for “big city” things. While others found their meaning in the outdoors, Carly embraced every opportunity to perform or to be tucked away writing music. Her first solo performance was at age 6, Avril Lavigne’s Complicated, to an audience of 400+ elementary schoolers, wearing ripped jeans and a hot pink t-shirt.

“From a young age, I remember the overwhelming desire to connect with people. It’s always been very loud inside my head, but something freeing happens when I attempt to translate a few of those thoughts into music,” says Hanley. “As I write, I try to connect to the stranger who will eventually listen…what do they need to hear?”
